Anticipating a high level of interest in the conference, we encourage you to register early.

Dear Participants and Attendees:
IAABD’s 9th conference explores the theme of Global and Local Dynamics in African Business and Development. The three-day meeting features morning and afternoon sessions for research presentations and discussion, luncheon roundtables for small group debate, and evening receptions for socialization and networking. Based on the experience of previous conferences, held in South Africa, Tanzania, Ghana, the UK, and the US, we expect attendees to include academic researchers, entrepreneurs, practitioners, and students.

The conference is a multi-disciplinary forum that addresses both basic and applied issues on African business and development. We welcome a range of topics and organize papers into a Proceedings volume given to participants at the meeting. Please submit abstracts via this website and using the Track System developed by the IAABD.

The 2008 meeting locale is home to the beautiful University of Florida (UF) campus whose 900 buildings on 2000 acres are interspersed with a rich variety of flora, springs and lakes. Recognized for research expertise, UF is a member of the prestigious American Association of Universities. Its 50,600 students are offered over 100 majors and 200 graduate degrees in 16 colleges and seven schools, including the Warrington College of Business Administration whose programs have been recognized for excellence by The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Economist, Fortune, and U.S. News & World Report. UF’s Center for African Studies was founded in 1965 and currently has 140 affiliate faculty, making it one of the oldest and most comprehensive African Studies programs in the US. I also cannot resist mentioning that, in 2007 Gainesville was voted the number one city (out of 400) in the U.S. and number five in terms of Adventure Cities. In addition to housing UF, Gainesville is also convenient to renowned amenities of north and central Florida.

I look forward to welcoming you to Gainesville in May 2008, and to sharing with you the challenge and excitement of this conference.

Cordially,
Dr. Anita Spring
